The
town centre is called Moliets et Maa, these were originally two very small villages with
the extremes just under 2 kms apart.
Today Moliets Village has expanded and has somewhat
engulfed the village of Maa (hence the name Moliets and Maa).
The centre of Moliets with the colombage exposed timber facades decorated with red
briquette slithers in a herringbone pattern between the timbers is a good example of the
traditional architecture in the Landes. (see Moliets Churches and discover the chapel of Maa in the forest).
The main area of Moliets is known as Moliets plage, a vast Garden City
(an expression, not
an actual city), where the local Architects and Town planners have completed a very
beautiful job of laying out the area using as much as possible the original pine forests,
planted palms, other trees & shrubs to add to its looks.
There is a lot of modern
housing, hotels, complexes and residential buildings very nicely nestling and hidden in
the trees, but all built to a traditional Landais style making a good balance.
Here you can cycle worry free of traffic, wander aimlessly in the forests, fish on the
lake (with a permit), play
Golf at the
Golf de Moliets ( 9 & 18 holes running side by side), play Tennis in a complex
which is as good as "Wimbledon" (without the grass courts) or "Forest
Hills" or take a walking tour or a boat trip at the courant d'Huchet, plus the Beaches,
the surf, all
the other Sports & Activities and Summer Eventsthat Moliets, the Landes and surrounding Towns &
villages have to offer.
Enjoy your visit!
